Earlier this week I was reading a piece written for Prophet Bishop Jordan that asked, “What are you buying with your mental energy?”
When I first read the statement, I frowned. I tipped my head to the side. Tipped it to the other. Tapped my fingers on the table for a little while just to keep time with the buzzing in my head. Then determined I really didn’t understand what he was asking and it was time for a little more context.
After looking through the works of Bishop Jordan, I understand what he’s asking. More importantly, I understand the point he was trying to make in terms of family, friends and financial prosperity. Before you do anything else with your life that’s going to change the path you’re on, you should too.
What Does It Mean to “Buy” with Your Mental Energy?
It is a sad truth that we do not, in fact, live in a world that’s ruled by the force. The power of the mind is all too often replaced by the power of cold, hard currency, and as a result we forget that we do, in fact, trade our mental energy on a day to day basis.
And these still are not the droids you’re looking for.
Whenever you set out to achieve something, anything, you put both your mental and your physical energy into the task. It takes time. Concentration. The ability to set aside other thoughts and desires and channel the whole of yourself into making this one thing happen. And quite frankly, that’s exhausting!
Think of It Like Running
Personally, I’m an avid jogger. I spend hours each week happily pounding the pavement, trading my physical energy for the rewards of a faster mile time, trim muscles, the joy of falling into bed exhausted at the end of the night.
I don’t get that same feeling of reward when I’ve been, say, trailing along after the kids trying to pick up all day long, because I’m not efficiently investing my energy. I’m tired (okay, exhausted), but there’s no pleasure to balance that out. I’m wasting energy on a goal that doesn’t mean that much to me. That’s how it is when you throw your mental energy away on dreams that you have no wish to achieve, or when you withhold that mental energy from the dreams you do and impede your own success.
What are you buying with your mental energy? And is it bringing you the rewards you seek?
